This unit study was inspired by the racial conflict of 2020. How can we understand a people group if we don’t even know their history? This literature-based unit study takes you through the history of African Americans from African slavery, emancipation, civil rights with key figurers in the African American community. I’ve included artists, writers and inventors, real stories of segregation and their fight for equal rights.

I feel passionately that we need to install a deep moral sense of right in wrong in the next generation, my hope is that these stories will help create empathy and understanding for the African American people and help your students to fight in the future against injustice.

The book list has 34 total books, I recommend reading these aloud in a family style history setting and use the teachers guide for the review discussion questions.

This product is a pdf download. I recommend printing at home and getting it spiral bound at a printing company.
